V-Ring Oil Seals

V-ring oil seals, also known as V-seals, are innovative all-rubber lip seals designed for shaft sealing applications, primarily as an external deflector against contaminants. They are unique in that they are simply pushed onto the shaft and run against a counterface (such as a housing wall or washer), rather than within a housing bore.

Contamination Exclusion: Their primary function is as a fling seal, effectively deflecting dirt, dust, water spray, and debris away from the sealing area. They are highly effective in dirty environments.
Simple and Flexible Design: Made entirely of elastomer, V-rings are highly elastic and can be stretched easily over flanges and large equipment parts for simple push-fit installation.
Accommodates Misalignment: The flexible design and method of operation allow them to accommodate significant radial and axial misalignment without compromising sealing performance.
Low Friction and Heat: The lip provides a light contact pressure, resulting in very low friction, less heat generation, and minimal power loss.

Common Materials
V-ring materials are selected based on the operating environment's temperature and chemical exposure:
Nitrile (NBR / Buna-N): The standard and most common material, offering good resistance to petroleum-based oils, greases, and fuels within a temperature range of -30°C to +120°C.
Viton® (FKM): Used for applications requiring resistance to high temperatures (up to +200°C) and aggressive chemicals, acids, and fuels.
EPDM: Primarily used for resistance to water, steam, ozone, and weathering in non-oil-based applications.
Applications
V-ring seals are used widely as primary or secondary seals in applications where contamination exclusion is a priority and traditional lip seals are difficult to install:
Agricultural and Construction Equipment: Used extensively in tractors, excavators, and mining machinery to protect bearings in dirty, dusty environments.
Electric Motors: Often used as an external seal on motor shafts to prevent the ingress of dust and water into the bearing housing.
Material Handling Equipment: In conveyor systems, forklifts, and other equipment to protect bearings from dust and debris ingress.
