The Customization Process
The process generally follows these steps when working with a seal expert or manufacturer:
Consultation and Requirement Analysis
Define Application Needs: Provide detailed information about the intended use of the seal. Key factors include the function of the equipment, the environment (indoor/outdoor), and potential contaminants.
Specify Operating Conditions (STAMP Information):
Speed: The rotational or linear velocity of the shaft.
Temperature: The minimum and maximum operating temperatures.
Application: The type of machinery (e.g., pump, gearbox, engine) and how the seal is integrated.
Media: The fluid(s) the seal will be in contact with (e.g., oil, grease, water, specific chemicals).
Pressure: The pressure differential across the seal (oil seals typically operate at very low pressure).
Provide Dimensions and Drawings: Supply precise measurements of the shaft diameter, housing bore diameter, and seal width. A technical drawing or 3D model is highly beneficial.
Material Selection
Based on the operating conditions, engineers will select the most appropriate materials for the sealing lip, metal case, and garter spring.
Common Lip Materials:
Nitrile (NBR / Buna-N): Good general-purpose oil and fuel resistance.
Viton® (FKM): Excellent high-temperature and chemical resistance.
Silicone (VMQ): Wide temperature range but poor abrasion resistance.
PTFE (Teflon®): Best chemical resistance and low friction, suitable for dry running.
Case/Spring Materials: Carbon steel is standard; stainless steel can be used for corrosion resistance.
Design and Prototyping
Engineers use advanced software to create detailed design specifications and models of the custom seal.
A prototype is produced using the selected materials and manufacturing techniques (e.g., compression molding or injection molding).
Testing and Approval
The prototype undergoes rigorous testing to ensure it meets all application requirements, including fit, leak prevention efficiency, and durability under stress.
After the prototype is approved by you, the design is finalized for full-scale production.

Full manufacturing begins, with stringent quality control measures at every stage to ensure consistency and adherence to specifications
