EPDM O-rings

EPDM O-rings are a versatile and durable sealing solution known for their excellent resistance to weathering, ozone, UV radiation, water, and steam. They are a popular choice for applications in non-oily environments due to their strong chemical stability against a range of polar fluids.
Key Features and Properties
Material: EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) is a synthetic rubber terpolymer.
Temperature Range: Generally performs reliably from -45°C to +150°C (-49°F to +302°F), depending on the curing method. Peroxide-cured EPDM offers better heat resistance and a lower compression set for more demanding conditions.
Mechanical Properties: EPDM features high elasticity, good abrasion resistance, and a low compression set, ensuring effective and long-lasting seals in both static and dynamic applications.
Weather Resistance: EPDM is highly resistant to degradation from ozone, sunlight, and general weathering, making it ideal for outdoor applications where materials like NBR would fail.
Chemical Compatibility
Resistant To:
Hot water and steam (up to 150°C/302°F)
Glycol-based brake fluids (DOT 3, 4, 5.1)
Phosphate ester hydraulic fluids (e.g., Skydrol®)
Polar solvents, such as alcohols and ketones (e.g., acetone)
Acids and alkalis (diluted organic and inorganic acids and bases)
Silicone oils and greases
Ozone and UV radiation
Not Recommended For Use With:
Mineral and petroleum-based oils and greases
Gasoline, diesel fuel, kerosene, and other common fuels
Aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons (e.g., benzene, toluene)
Chlorinated solvents
Typical Applications
EPDM O-rings are used widely across various industries for their specific resistance profile:
HVAC Systems: Selected for their resistance to water, steam, and refrigerants in heating and cooling circuits.
Automotive Industry: Essential in braking systems using glycol fluids and engine cooling systems, but not typically in oil-based engine parts.
Water and Wastewater Systems: Used in pumps, valves, and pipes due to excellent water and weather resistance, with special compounds certified for drinking water (FDA, NSF61).
Household Appliances: Found in washing machines and dishwashers for resistance to hot water, steam, and cleaning agents.
Outdoor Applications: Used in seals for windows, doors, and roofing systems due to exceptional ozone and UV resistance.
